The Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Kerala, is a premier initiative under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, established during the 11th Five Year Plan. Managed by the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), IDTR is committed to reducing road accidents by promoting safe driving practices through structured and scientific training programs.
Our Mission
IDTR's core objective is to cultivate responsible driving behavior by providing comprehensive training that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. By instilling the right attitudes and habits, IDTR aims to enhance road safety and reduce the incidence of traffic-related incidents across Kerala.
Training Programs Offered
IDTR offers a diverse range of courses tailored to meet the needs of various stakeholders in the transportation sector:
- Hazardous Goods Drivers Training (3 Days): Focused on safe transportation practices for hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- PUCC Technicians Training (2 Weeks): Designed for Pollution Under Control Certificate technicians, covering emission standards and testing procedures.
- Driving School Instructor Course: Equips aspiring instructors with pedagogical skills and in-depth knowledge of traffic rules and vehicle mechanics.
- Crash Prevention and Driver Training: Aims to enhance defensive driving skills and accident avoidance techniques.
- Motor Transport Inspectors Training (2 Days): Specialized training for Kerala Police inspectors focusing on vehicle inspection and enforcement protocols.
- Corrective Training for Drivers (5 Days): Targeted at drivers with suspended licenses, emphasizing behavioral change and adherence to traffic laws.
- Refresher Courses for In-Service Drivers: Short-term programs to update existing drivers on the latest traffic regulations and safety practices.
Each course is delivered by experienced instructors using a blend of classroom sessions, practical exercises, and simulator-based training to ensure comprehensive learning.
Facilities & Infrastructure
Located in Edappal, Malappuram District, IDTR boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including:
